Oregon was a mistake

Oregon, what you doin???
I think I am most bewildered by how many people seem to think that you spend the rest of the day reeking of gas fumes if you touch a gas pump. Do they think you pour the gas all over yourself…? Why are these gas fumes clinging to you through your day such that you will not be fit to be around other humans…?
I didn’t even know there were places left that let you pump your own gas.
@antyc67 in Britain we pump our own.
I didn’t know there were any stations left where people don’t pump their own gas. Every gas station I’ve ever seen has been self-service since the 1970s.
I’ve lived in Central Michigan my entire life and i have never heard of people just….not pumping their gas……i’m so fucking confused.
Oregon: You expect us to pump our own gas like peasants? :/
The entire rest of the world:

2018 throw back
I travel for work. I avoid getting gas in OR and NJ. I don’t like being required to let someone do something that I am perfectly capable of doing myself.
God forbid we dropped the fuel tax even lower and killed a bunch of jobs huh?

On average our fuel is $.40 a gallon cheaper and we employ a lot of people. Sure I’m perfectly capable of pumping my own gas (I drive a diesel and pump mine anyway) but our fuel is already cheaper than Washington’s and a decent portion of the price goes to paying wages. Y’all can kiss my white ass over this salt.
You like those laws? Or am I reading this wrong?
I don’t really care too much. The issue I have is that you know damn well they won’t rescind the tax if they drop the gas attendants (fuel transfer technicians). The best thing that would come from changing the current laws would be a lot of menial people losing their menial jobs. While our prices are quite high compared to a lot of the country it’s still cheaper than our neighbors and we employ thousands, many of whom wouldn’t be employable for much else.
You’re probably right that the tax won’t be dropped. That’s it’s own issue of government immorality. I just don’t like the government assuming the power to dictate who an employer does or does not employ. If a business or position within can’t function due to it’s value only being propped up by ill gotten(?) tax dollars it maybe shouldn’t exist.
I get that those workers probably feel different, but those laws set a bad precedent for governmental overreach when they were implemented. On the other hand it is state law and not federal law. So there’s really a limit to how much I, as a citizen of a separate state, can say.
I would ask though, if you could get the state to rescind the taxes applied as a result to the ban, would you? Even if it cost those FTT’s their jobs?
That’s the rub right? Yes, i suppose I would support repealing the law. But even though it’s a socialist policy at its core, you said as much without the word, it has been in place for a long time and helps a whole lot of people pay bills. It’s also a great place for those transitioning out of prison or off the streets. I see value in this whole subject. Of all the crappy nanny state shit that exists in this state this one you can see do good things every day. I agree that maybe it shouldn’t exist but we’d have a whole lot more people on the dole without these jobs.
Fair enough, in your current state people have become reliant on that as a source of income. If you want to rid yourselves of the government overstep without destabilizing an income resource perhaps the best step would be to repeal the ban and offer a subsidy (or some other form of incentive) for businesses who choose to retain their FTT’s. Assuming they would keep the tax either way, they could use that tax money for pretty much the same thing it’s used for now. At least this way the government is no longer dictating innocent private business practices.
That’s far too logical for these parts Brother, but I agree with you completely on that idea.
Are you kidding me, this is a little stupid I have not seen before.

Damn Carl!😂😂😂
